In times of high stress and anxiety, we need to make sure we're taking care of ourselves and not just focusing exclusively on our families and businesses.
In this week's episode, I share a few of the things I'm doing in my own life for self care, and I reached out to a few Everyday VOpreneurs for their stories and insights as well.
Nobody really knows how long the COVID-19 pandemic will last, and there are a lot of questions about how long stay at home orders will be in place. We need to do everything we can to maintain a sense of normal in our lives and keep our stress levels down.

Since caveman days, our brains have been genetically pre-disposed to protection. Our programming is designed to keep us safe. Now that we no longer have dinosaurs to run from, instead, we're trying to protect ourselves from physical and emotional pain, or from a global COVID-19 pandemic, or from running out of toilet paper!
This negativity bias skews the way to consume information and the way we perceive our life and circumstances. That's having a deep impact on how we think about and operate our voice over businesses.

We are living in a confusing, overwhelming and constantly changing time right now as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves. Everyday the rules and regulations change and with those changes, it's our responsibility as business owners to stay on top of the developments and adapt where we can.

As more and more businesses seem to be closing up temporarily and with each passing day we hear of my rules, regulations and recommendations from government and health officials, it can be confusing and overwhelming to try and navigate as a voice actor.
We don't want to be insensitive to what's happening in the world right now with coronavirus and COVID-19, but we also must step up and take responsibility for our businesses as owners... as VOpreneurs!

It's the shiny new toy syndrome. You get a new toy, and you love it and you give all your attention to it. Meanwhile, the old toys you've had for years fall by the wayside. Forgotten and replaced by the new.
Maybe this has happened in your life. Maybe you're having childhood flashbacks as you read this, thinking of a Christmas or birthday when the old favorite toys got replaced.

My exit strategy was kind of simple... I got downsized from my day job. That kind of forced my hand as far as transitioning from full-time day job to full-time voice over job. However, not everybody needs to go about it in quite as extreme of fashion as I did! :)
